*When you buy the entire kit, the base plate comes already
cut and drilled, ready for use. Get it from Ron at
www.hexkit.com
You can save money by using parts that will serve quite well though not as well as the premium parts shown here. Here are some places where you can cut costs.
  • Use zinc hardware rather than stainless steel, usually about half as expensive.
  • Use cable ties instead of hose clamps to anchor wires to the spreaders.
  • Use one flange on the base plate instead of two.
  • Make the base plate of kitchen cutting board rather than aluminum.
  • Use a 1" pvc schedule 40 pipe or 1.25" fiberglass for the center post and Euro terminals with coax on the outside and sealed to be moisture proof.

I have used these techniques myself and had good success. However, you must be willing to accept lower resistance to storms and corrosion.
Fiberglass tubes can be obtained from Max Gain Systems
at
www.mgs4u.com. Other items can be obtained at local
hardware outlets.
Kevlar and Dacron cord can be otained from
www.radioworks.com. Crimps are not necessary if you are
willing to tie knots instead, a perfectly suitable alternative.
Hooks can be obtained from local hardware outlets.
Split conduit can be obtained from www.conduitrepair.com
but is fairly expensive. A fine alternative is to use a 1 inch
PVC Schedule 40 pipe and mount Euro terminals obtained
from Radio Shack on the sides at the appropriate heights
for each band and connect between them with 50 ohm coax.

The other hardware is obtainable from local hardware
outlets.
Antenna wire can be obtained from www.thewireman.com.
The cord can be obtained from
www.radioworks.com.  Lugs
can be obtained from local hardware outlets.
